On Sunday, December 3rd, members of the Scrooge cast; Joe Ermert, Margarita LePre, Ben Salers, Diane Wilson, and, yours truly, Eric Young performed songs at the Dickens Festival in Port Jefferson. We had fun hanging out in Dickens Alley, roaming the streets, and visiting a couple venues. Crowds gathered as we sang the opening and Thank You Very Much along with Ben and Diane charming the people with the start to act II. Joe even did his Marley tune with a limited amount of phantoms surrounding him. All in all it was a wonderful day for all involved. It was great doing the English accents one more time and having people wonder if we really were English or not. Many more people now know about The James Street Players.The Port Jeff Arts Council already wants more for next year. Don't worry I did not make them any promises.

Matt Klauser On The Today Show (Update)

Hopefully this will get to everyone in time, but if not, i assume you'll all find out after tomorrow.

Leigh Klauser asked me to inform everyone that, although Matt taped the session with Il Divo this morining for the Today show, the performance will actually not be aired tomorrow, December 8, as previously posted. It will be aired on Channel 5, on a date to be announced.

Either the Klausers or I through them will update when we know when the show will be aired.

I am currently on sabbtical from NCC and I am working as a volunteer with MOMMA'S House, a residence for young mothers. On Thursday, December 7, the North Shore Pops will be giving a concert at St. Rocco's Church in Glen Cove. Admission is free but a free will donation to benefit MOMMA's House would be appreciated. Get some Christmas spirit and join us there at 8 pm in the parish hall. The Church is off Cedar Swamp Rd, in Glen Cove...just take 107 north and bear right all the way. (Right fork where it says Sea Cliff and then take the fourth right where the sign says, -> St. Roccos. Turn right at the stop sign up the hill and you will be in the church parking lot.

Broadway Cares update

THANK YOU so much for the overwhelming response that I have gotten for the Broadway Cares Auction. So far we have raise $1000! Unfortunately the pre-bid has also jumped to $1,100 but we're not losing hope yet.

Hello to all of the extended James St. Players family,

As many of you know, I am in my senior year at Providence College, primarily studying conducting for Musical Theater. It is an extremely interesting field and one that I received my grassroots in doing shows over the summer for the teen productions. The reason I am writing to you today is that the charity Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS has set up an opportunity in their yearly auction for a chance to conduct in a performance of Phantom of the Opera. The winner would be given two rehearsals with the musical director, a seat in the pit during the show and then the podium to conduct the exit music. Needless to say, it would be a dream come true.

I ask for your help financially in this quest. I understand that times are tough (I myself have an exorbitant tuition bill every year!) and anything that you could possibly spare would be greatly appreciated. It is an auction however and even if we are not the highest bidder, we intend to still donate the money to Broadway Cares. If anyone is not familiar with this charity, visit www.bcefa.org for information. The help that they bring to members of the theater community suffering from HIV/AIDS is invaluable.

Christmas Survival Guide update

Unfortunately there was insufficient interest in the village of Babylon to produce a First Night celebration for 2006. Because of that, and the difficulty with producing a show in December, I have had to temporarily shelve the idea of producing "A Christmas Survival Guide." But I'm hoping it's not dead forever. They are still hoping that First Night will become a reality in 2007, so we will see.

John & Claudia Bonavita, and Wendy DeGaetano have combined forces once again this summer to give our younger JSP'ers a chance to shine - and shine they do!

"You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" opened last night to a wonderfully crowded & very appreciative house at Our Lady of Grace Church in W. Babylon. There are still 2 more performances - tonight & tomorrow night at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $10 at the door. It's an adorable show & they're doing a fantastic job with it. You'll be sorry if you miss it!

Next weekend, the younger set gets their chance to shine. "A Night at the Oscars," presenting music from movies, will be performed by a cast of ages 4-12 year-olds. They've been working all summer too and are looking forward to strutting their stuff for all of us. Performances are next Thurs & Fri, (8/17 & 18) at 8:00 pm. Tickets are also $10.

This coming weekend at Massapequa High School, Wendy Degaetano's Body Language Dance Studio will be putting on a three-day performance of GREASE, the show of the 50's we all know and love. There are many JSPers involved in the show as Creative Staff members as well as Cast members. We've been working exceptionally hard (getting more work done faster than I've ever personally seen done in any show), and the show is really turning out to be a great all around production.

I am a big fan of Barnum! I never saw the B'way show, but I performed in it 20 yrs ago (is that possible, Brent?) at Theatre Three as a pre-show-palm reader and a pit singer/sound effects person. It was more fun than you can imagine. Well, James Street Players are obviously having as much fun with their production as I did in mine. I was amazed at how many performers were involved in this show. It's not a huge stage, but every inch of the playing space as well as the entire "house" became involved in the "Greatest Show on Earth." I know Martin Knapp (P.T. Barnum) as a fabulous athlete/runner and had the pleasure of performing in Pirates with him at James St. about 15 years ago (can that be?) I had no idea that he could command the stage as he does. Our Pirates director, Thom Rosati, is the ringmaster and master the ring, he does. There are so many good performances to be seen in this production, but some of the best moments are the those that you might miss if you don't keep your eyes constantly scanning the proceedings. There's fun galore, a feast of color for the eye, an orchestra of 20+ for the ear, and touching performances to touch your heart. Go ahead and "Join the circus like you wanted to" at The James Street Players. Barnum! closes 5/13.

Wanted: A Director, Actors, and a Sound and/or Light person

The Second Chance Players, a new theater group with some of your own in it (Debbie and Pearl Cohen, Norm and Sue Roscoe, Jeff Aigen, Charlie Johnson and Eric Young), is presenting Moss Hart's and George Kaufman's "You Can't Take It With You" as a benefit and fundraiser for not for profits. Come see the West Babylon HS production of "BYE BYE BIRDIE". Performances are on Thursday, Feb 9, Friday, Feb 10 and Saturday, Feb 11 - all at 8pm. Please note: The show is being held at the West Babylon Junior High School on Old Farmingdale Rd. (NOT at the High School) Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for Students & Senior Citizens and can be purchased at the door. The following JSP members are involved in the production: Jean Bonavita as Albert Peterson, Dominick DeGaetano as Harry McAfee, Gaby DeGaetano as Ursula Merkel, Jason Chervin as Harvey Johnson, Ginny Pape as Mrs. McAfee, Rebecca Brown as Mrs. Peterson, Kaley Sullivan as Rosie Alvarez, Connor Sullivan as Ed Sullivan, Robert Barry as Hugo Peabody and appearing in the chorus are Nuala Gaffey and Jillian Grazioso.
